Rescue Dawn
Needs Rescuing
Christian Bale stars as Dieter Dengler, an Air Force Ranger that gets shot down over Laos during a pre-Vietnam black ops mission.  His capture, torture and rescue comprise the plot to this real-life story of the human spirit.

Bale plays a very complex character in what turns out to be an extremely slow movie that takes cues from Castaway.  Bale doesn't have a volleyball to talk to but he does have Steve Zahn, another American POW that's been stranded in the Viet Cong camp for 1.5 years.  Dengler was put through hell during his ordeal and the director gets this across painfully well.

This movie is very much worth watching but expect long actionless scenes and excellent cinematography.

Verdict:  Image

Directed by:  Werner Herzog

Starring: Christian Bale, Steve Zahn, Jeremy Davies, Zach Grenier, Pat Healy
